In Total War, you may have to wipe out other factions, but you can confederate groups of the same race as you. It also exacerbates other problems for other factions, specifically high elves. If you somehow end up with any of those cool units, you better preserve them, because the moment they die, they're gone. This means you're all but guranteed to be going into battle with units that you should have replaced 30 turns ago, and are inherently weaker than what your enemies packing. This means every other group has access to the full breadth of units available, including ones that are upgrades to base game units, such as sisters of avelorn to replace light armor archers) at higher levels. The problem is while the game knows that I have no paid DLC, it treats every other faction as having spent the full $107.10 (excluding tax and the $3 DLC to have blood effects) to buy every one. I haven't bought any of the DLC because altogether, it's incredibly expensive and the best-case scenario is I enjoy this and buy the sequel that's literally the same thing but better.
